A report shares what Liverpool have told Teun Koopmeiners’ agents about a potential transfer in 2023. The Reds need a new midfielder.
This comes from Tutto Atalanta of the TuttoMercatoWeb network. They claim that Liverpool have been in contact about Teun Koopmeiners.
The 24-year-old Dutchman moved to Atalanta back in 2021 and has enjoyed a great time there. Liverpool, who were linked back then, would now like to sign him.
But it won’t be easy. The Italian side won’t even entertain a deal for under £35m, having paid £10m for him 18 months ago. Such has been Koopmeiners’ form, they’re expecting a massive profit here.

Liverpool, for their part, aren’t put off. They’ve been in touch with Wasserman, the agency that represents Koopmeiners, to express their interest. The Reds like the player – with Jurgen Klopp named as wanting him.

One piece of information that could swing things here is that Koopmeiners earns around €1.5m per year. That works out to roughly £25k per week – a figure that could skyrocket at Anfield.
Per Capology, the only three players who earn less than that are Curtis Jones, Calvin Ramsay and Caoimhín Kelleher. None are anywhere near as established as Koopmeiners. Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho, in fact, are both on £40k.
So when Liverpool tell Wasserman that they have interest here, they’ll listen. Liverpool have a chance to secure a deal, with the asking price essentially known and an easy way to entice the player.

The big question, then, is whether Koopmeiners is ‘the’ player. Liverpool have several on their shortlist, it seems, but can’t sign them all. Bringing in one now would eliminate potential summer options – so they must be the right player.
Koopmeiners could be that, though. He’s experienced across two leagues and at international level, while he’s the profile Liverpool like in the middle.
Especially as his wages wouldn’t be astronomical. He’d want a pay-rise, of course, but Capology puts Arthur – essentially who he’d replace – on £110k per week. That’s over four times what Koopmeiners currently earns.
Liverpool, then, could strike a financial steal.
