Everton are in talks for Arnaut Danjuma, according to reports. He’s a player who has openly talked about moving to Liverpool.

This comes from Cadena SER. They claim that Everton are now in talks with Villarreal about signing Arnaut Danjuma this month.

The deal would be a loan with an option to buy at the end of the season. Nothing will happen until Villarreal seal a replacement for the Dutchman, however, who has four goals this season.

Everton want Arnaut Danjuma

This is an interesting one as Danjuma was consistently linked with Liverpool over the course of last season. Marca actually had him down as a target for the Reds back when he was at Bournemouth but Villarreal swooped in to get him.

But the links never went away. Marca, again, claimed Liverpool wanted him last season, with Fabrizio Romano, the Athletic and Goal all joining them in that.

Danjuma was supposed to cost around £35m but the Reds never moved, of course. Instead, they signed his compatriot Cody Gakpo to play on their left wing.

But the reports were strong. So strong, in fact, that Danjuma actually addressed them.

“I have been informed that Liverpool followed me closely,” he said in May, per Voetbal Primeur.

“I’ll never lie, I think it’s a bad trait if you’re not ambitious. And if a club were to come along that offers me a higher platform to play, I should always consider that.”

And for what it’s worth, we liked the idea of signing Danjuma last season. He looked like a top talent and put in some fantastic performances in the Champions League.

But it wasn’t to be and Danjuma fell just short of the heights people expected. Now he’s likely returning to England, it seems, and even to Merseyside.

Just not quite to the club he thought might sign him.
