Wolves could be about to strike some business that would allow Liverpool to move forward on Matheus Nunes. The Reds reportedly want the midfielder.

Journalist Ryan Taylor had some interesting comments this week. He’s certain that Wolves want OGC Nice midfielder Mario Lemina this month.

“Lemina is definitely a target,” he told GiveMeSport. “He’s a player they’ve looked at in the past before he went to Nice. “He also had a loan spell with Fulham and Wolves were also looking at him at that point.”

Lemina wouldn’t cost much, it seems, with the Daily Mail claiming the last offer from Wolves was just £4.9m. A potential bargain, then?

And maybe the player that allows Liverpool to sign Matheus Nunes.

Wolves, Liverpool and Mathues Nunes

The Telegraph claimed last week that Liverpool could agree a £44m deal for Nunes. Neil Jones of Goal then vouched for that report, saying he completely trusted it.

It would be an interesting one. Nunes can’t actually play for anyone else this season as he’s featured for both Sporting and Wolves already. Any potential deal, then, would be for the summer – but that doesn’t mean Liverpool can’t strike one.

It appears the Reds want a deal in principle or maybe a completed future deal for Nunes. The Lemina interest looks interesting in that light, as he could be a replacement before the fact.

After all, teams like to bring in a replacement before they sell a key player. It’s the only way you can definitely avoid being left with nothing, should targets not work out after the big sale.

That’s difficult to do with a deal in principle or one that’s planned months in advance. You won’t get the money for months later and you only have two options.

The first is a cheap deal for a player to play alongside the player for the next few months. The other is to strike a deal in principle of your own – but they’re not easy to find.

We wonder if Wolves are going with the former, then, and that Lemina is their choice. He may not be their ultimate replacement for Nunes but he’d be a guarantee that they at least have the numbers after next summer.

It’s just speculation on our part but speculation that adds up with recent reports. Nunes to Liverpool is absolutely one to watch.
