Liverpool are now eyeing a surprise move for Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha, according to journalist Dean Jones, writing for GiveMeSport.

Having joined the Cottagers last summer in a deal worth £20m, the 27-year-old has excelled in the Premier League this season.

Consequently, it is reported that both the Reds and Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring the Portugal international closely.

However, it is believed that Fulham are desperate to keep hold of the midfielder, although they are anticipating advancements for the player in the summer.

Jones claims that Jurgen Klopp’s side had Palhinha on their radar even before he made the move to Craven Cottage from Sporting Lisbon last year.

Having only arrived in London at the start of the season, the Fulham star has heavily impressed in the middle of the park at Craven Cottage.

As per The Athletic’s Peter Rutzler, the former Sporting man has made the most tackles in the Premier League this season, having completed 80. Astonishingly, Leeds United’s Tyler Adams trails in second with 60 – illustrating just how dominant the Portuguese is in the tackle.

As a result, Match of the Day commentator has hailed the 27-year-old as an ‘outstanding’ player, having settled right into the physicality of English football.

Having allowed Gini Wijnaldum to leave the club in 2021, Liverpool have needed a midfielder with a similar presence ever since.

With Fabinho looking a little tired in the defensive position, Palhinha would be a brilliant addition to Klopp’s squad.

Reading the game perfectly, he would make an instant impact at the Reds – with the side really desperate to sign a midfielder this month.

Although this probably remains an unrealistic task in January, the Merseyside outfit should do all they can to lure the Portuguese gem to Anfield this summer.
