Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp could completely change his mind about keeping midfielder Naby Keita at the club, according to journalist Graeme Bailey.
Speaking with TEAMtalk about the Reds’ options in the middle of the park, the reporter claimed the Merseyside boss could pull off a huge U-turn and decide to keep the 27-year-old at Anfield beyond the summer.
“When it comes to Liverpool’s midfield, the revolution could very well come within,” Bailey said.
“And those players who currently look like departing are Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita. Both fall out of contract on July 1.
“As it stands, both are due to leave, but I believe that Klopp would be open to them staying now both are involved again.
“All in all, there are many decisions for Klopp to make, but so many big decisions for Liverpool!”
Klopp may offer Keita a new deal
The Guinea international has largely been unavailable this season due to various hamstring and muscle issues.
To date, the former RB Leipzig man – who joined the Reds for an initial £48m – has featured just six times this term.
However, Keita appears to have returned to full fitness, and he has played in Liverpool’s last three Premier League games.
Coming off the bench for Klopp’s side in the FA Cup clash against Wolves on Saturday, the 27-year-old was miles above any other Reds player in midfield.
Saying this, Keita’s talent has never been in question. The uncertainty has always surrounded his injury issues and overall fitness.
Therefore, if the midfielder can show the Liverpool staff that he can stay fit for the remainder of the campaign, there would be no reason why he shouldn’t be offered a new deal at Anfield beyond the summer.
