Midfielder Ismael Bennacer is set to sign a new contract with AC Milan, which includes a release clause of £44m. Liverpool should jump at the opportunity and sign him this month.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the 25-year-old will renew his deal with the Rossoneri until 2027. He claims the Algeria international really wanted to remain with the Serie A club.

However, Romano also reports that Bennacer’s new contract will contain the same release clause that was included in his previous deal.

Therefore, the midfielder will be available to sign for just £44m.

With a crisis in the middle of the park at Anfield, the Reds should opt to activate this clause as soon as physically possible.

Liverpool should sign Bennacer

When compared with positional peers across Europe over the past year, Bennacer ranks in the top five percent for tackles made, and also in the top six percent for shot-creating actions.

Fabinho, on the other hand, ranks in the bottom 50 percent for both stats respectively. Whilst Jordan Henderson is a little better off with his position in the top 22 percent for shot-creating actions, he disappointingly ranks in the bottom 17 percent for tackles made.

Jurgen Klopp desperately needs to add midfield additions to his squad this month, and with a ‘world-class’ player (as described by journalist Mina Rzouki) available for just £44m, this should be a no-brainer for the club.

Defensively, the Reds have looked shambolic in the midfield. Aside from Thiago, they look really off the pace.

Therefore, it is evident fresh legs are needed, and Bennacer could be the man to solve Liverpool’s issues. A number of new players are most definitely needed, and the Merseyside outfit should start with the AC Milan star this month.
