‘He’s going to’: Liverpool’s ‘hard worker’ tipped to explode into form at any moment

Darwin Nunez needs just one thing before his form takes off, says a former Premier League striker. The player has hit a wall at Liverpool.

Former Leeds United striker Michael Bridges isn’t worried about Darwin Nunez. The Liverpool striker can’t find the net right now but Bridges backs him to hit form at any moment.

“With Nunez, I’m still going to back him because he is getting a lot of opportunities,” he told Optus Sport. “But I got to say the right foot shot the other night against Brentford when he dragged it across goal… was so frustrating.

“He’s got the pace, he makes the dynamic runs, he’s a hard worker, but I am questioning his finishing ability on that right side. I think once he gets one, he’s going to get a hatful.”

We essentially know that Bridges is right here. Nunez has struggled for goals since the World Cup but he didn’t beforehand.

After scoring against Arsenal in early October, the striker went on a run of seven goals in 10 games. That’s the kind of form Liverpool want after paying a potential club-record to get him.

But yes, things have been difficult over the last few games. Nunez is getting the chances, as Bridges mentions, and some of those chances have been brilliant. He’s a magnet for them – but putting them in the net is the problem.

A lot of it has been about misfortune. Nunez should have had one against Aston Villa but it was cleared off the line. Against Leicester City, his effort came back off the inside of the post.

That kind of luck will turn around and we do believe that he’ll go on a hot-streak before long. Maybe that’s just the kind of player he is – from unstoppable to unfortunate.

But at 23, Nunez still has plenty of time to find his consistency permanently.
