Chelsea scout Sven Dworaczek will return to Liverpool, according to reports. The Blues decided they didn’t need him anymore.

This comes from the Guardian. They claim that Chelsea scout Sven Dworaczek will part ways with the club and return to Liverpool.

It’s an interesting story, given the 32-year-old only left Liverpool for the Blues in 2021. A complete shift in their transfer strategy left him surplus to requirements, however.

The new owners at Chelsea will move their recruitment to an almost completely data-driven model. They’re taking after Brighton, apparently, and traditional scouting is out the door.

Dworaczek, who would watch players in a certain part of the world, is now seen as unnecessary. Instead, they’ll have analysts looking at players in specific areas of the pitch

It’s said that the German leaves Chelsea on good terms, however. He’s not the only one out, either, as Leonardo Masieri also departs. He’ll take up a job with Manchester City’s parent company, scouting for the City Group.

It’s an odd one, this. Liverpool will be happy to get Dworaczek back, of course, but you’ve got to question what Chelsea are doing here.

They’re moving to that data-driven recruitment model more in line with Brighton. That sees them cut ties with two scouts – who immediately join two of the most successful clubs in the world.

Data in scouting has become the norm, of course, but going all-in on it seems strange. Especially when Liverpool, whose recruitment may be the best in the world, are happy to take Chelsea’s scout. The Reds still make use of traditional scouting and to world-beating effect.

Time will tell if Chelsea are correct. What we can be sure of is that the data is telling them to try and buy as many players as possible and all for enormous fees. At least, that’s what their recent transfer business suggests.
