Liverpool’s new seven-man injury list with their ‘most important’ player set to see specialist

Liverpool’s injury list doesn’t look great and January has barely started. Virgil van Dijk is the latest player out.

Liverpool got some bad news this week with Virgil van Dijk set for a spell on the sidelines. Per the BBC, he’ll need to see a specialist about a hamstring issue he picked up against Brentford on Monday.

It’s a massive blow. Van Dijk didn’t perform well against Brentford but it was only last wee that pundit Garth Crooks called him Liverpool’s ‘most important’ player.

They’ll now need to cope without the Dutchman but he’s far from the only injury Liverpool are dealing with. There are seven players out right now – and we’re only just back from the World Cup break.

Liverpool’s injury list as of January 4th

The Athletic point out the majority of this list. Luis Díaz and Diogo Jota are long-term absentees, with the former possibly not returning until March.

Jota has been out since October but there’s a chance he returns at the end of this month. We’ll cross our fingers on that one.

Arthur Melo is another we haven’t seen for a while. Then, we haven’t seen much of him full-stop – only 13 minutes since arriving at Anfield. He may finally be back in the mix this month, though, but it could be February.

James Milner and Roberto Firmino have missed games lately, too. They’re supposedly not injured for as long as the others but we don’t have a clear return date.

Then there’s one that the Athletic don’t mention – Calvin Ramsay. We can turn to the Liverpool Echo for a line on him, where they claim an ‘unspecified’ injury that had him sidelined.

Liverpool better cross their fingers that this is the end of it for a while.
