‘Confirmed’: 21-year-old Liverpool target asked his club for Chelsea transfer today – Romano

Enzo Fernández told Benfica his decision on a move to Chelsea, says Fabrizio Romano. Liverpool have long been linked with the player.

This comes from Fabrizio Romano. He claims that Enzo Fernández officially told Benfica his thoughts on moving to the Premier League today.

Chelsea are the side pushing to sign Enzo in this transfer window. The 21-year-old has now let his club know that he wants the move and the next 48 hours will be crucial.

Suggestions are that this will be a Premier League record transfer, too, but that might not be the case. The Telegraph reports tonight that Chelsea don’t want to pay over £100m for the midfielder. Benfica, however, have no reason to sell right now. They’re happy to wait.

Thus things could be at a standstill. While Enzo may want the move to London, he’s got to hope that the two clubs can find an agreement.

Anything short of that could open the door to others.

Enzo Fernández asks for Chelsea move

There has been plenty of talk that Liverpool also like Enzo. Romano himself claimed that recently, in fact, but it appears they’re facing an uphill battle.

Chelsea moved their attention to Enzo because of Liverpool, if the Athletic are believed. They say that Jude Bellingham would be the Blues’ priority but the Reds are so far ahead in that race that they changed their target.

And so this is a difficult one to judge. We’d love to see Enzo at Anfield but only if Bellingham doesn’t arrive. After all, we can’t imagine Liverpool could afford both.

Chelsea signing him in this window would be a bit of a blow, then, as there’s little guarantee that Liverpool will sign Bellingham. We’ll hope that agreement isn’t found and that the Argentine remains in Portugal this summer.
