Martin Terrier suffered an awful injury this week and will miss up to eight months, according to reports. Liverpool reportedly like him.
Stade Rennais announced on Tuesday that Martin Terrier has torn his cruciate ligaments. The player went down with an injury on Monday evening and the worst has been confirmed.
This comes during a wonderful period for Terrier. The forward has nine Ligue 1 goals and four assists in 16 games, with another three strikes in the Europa League. In fact, Terrier scored against Nice in the 36 minutes before his injury last night.

The 25-year-old hadn’t managed to break into the France squad but there was a feeling he wasn’t far off. Especially after 21 goals in Ligue 1 last season. Only Kylian Mbappé and Neymar managed more contributions in 2022.
L’Équipe report that he could now face eight months on the sidelines as a decision is made on surgery. A massive blow, then, for a fantastic player.
Martin Terrier suffers ACL injury
This is one that could affect Liverpool. Media Foot reported just last week that the Reds have an interest in Terrier, with Rennes potentially looking to cash-in for £34m.
That wasn’t the first time Liverpool were linked with the player, either. The Mirror mentioned their interest back in June as a potential replacement for Sadio Mané.

It won’t happen now, of course. Terrier may not play again until next season – that certainly sounds like the most likely scenario. Any dreams of his to move up a level, for Rennes to get a hefty fee, and for Liverpool to sign a fantastic goalscorer are now on the shelf.
If Liverpool do want to boost their attacking options further – and that’s a big ‘if’ – then they’ll need to look elsewhere. We can only hope that Terrier recovers properly and can find this sparkling form again down the line.
