Liverpool are back in for Martin Terrier, according to reports. The French striker has been a target for some time now.

This comes from Media Foot in France. They believe Liverpool have asked Rennes for more information on Martin Terrier.

The Mirror reported back in June that Liverpool viewed Terrier as a potential replacement for Sadio Mané. Of course, the Reds signed Darwin Nunez as a forward in the summer and any interest in Terrier appeared to be forgotten.

But Media Foot believe it never really went away. Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United are three clubs who have asked Rennes about the player.

Any deal would likely cost around £34m and Terrier would be interested. He has eyes on the French national team and a big transfer would almost certainly open that door.

Liverpool watch Martin Terrier

Terrier isn’t exactly the biggest name in football but his reputation has skyrocketed in 2022. The only Ligue 1 players with more goals this calendar year are Kylian Mbappé and Neymar.

Terrier finished last season with 21 goals in Ligue 1 and boasts another eight already this campaign. It’s a big, big step up from the nine he got two seasons ago.

And the player ticks a few other boxes, too. At 25, he’s just coming into his prime, while he can also play across the front line. £34m could end up being fantastic business for the right club.

Is that club Liverpool, though? We don’t see any possibility of a January move after Cody Gakpo joined. The summer could work, however, with Roberto Firmino’s future still up in the air and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain likely departing.

No one should expect any imminent news on this one, then. As a long-term option, though, we think Terrier is a good one and certainly one for Liverpool fans to watch.
