Ben Doak has to be Liverpool’s young player to watch out for in 2023.
The 17-year-old attacker has enjoyed a sensational start to life on Merseyside since joining from Celtic over the summer.
In September, he made his first-team debut against the Rams as a 16-year-old. Shortly after, just a day after his birthday, he kept his place on Liverpool’s bench against Southampton in the Premier League.
Having travelled with Jurgen Klopp’s first-team to the Reds’ warm-weather training camp out in Dubai, the Scotsman has seemingly impressed the senior coaching staff. He earned a cameo against AC Milan, during which he rattled the post. This illustrated his fearless nature and emphatic determination to succeed, highlighting how he is more than worth the opportunity to receive minutes on the pitch.
Doak one to watch in 2023
As a 17-year-old who has made just one senior appearance for the club, Doak needs to gain as much experience as possible in men’s football.
The attacker is likely to receive more chances with the first-team in the new year; whether that be in the FA Cup or on the bench in the Premier League.
Looking forward, the Reds will be looking to send the youngster out on loan.
The level at which remains to be seen. At 17-years-old, Harvey Elliott was sent out on loan to Blackburn Rovers in the Championship.
This could be a possibility for Doak, who doesn’t seem phased by the physicality of the men’s game.
It is still early days with the former Celtic youngster. Having said this, he has been hailed by Scotland U21’s head coach Scott Gemmill, as he claimed the teenager’s ‘potential is enormous’, Liverpool certainly have an incredible young player on their hands.
