Liverpool have several players who could leave the club in 2023. Roberto Firmino is undoubtedly the biggest.
Liverpool have big plans in 2023, with links to players like Jude Bellingham and Enzo Fernández. In other words, they need cash – both for transfer fees and the wage bill.
That will likely see some players leave the club. Some may simply be sold but others will have their contracts expire as Liverpool opt against renewal.
So with that in mind, here are six players who could depart in 2023.
Players who could leave Liverpool in 2023
Roberto Firmino
Firmino is the headline here. His contract expires at the end of the season and there isn’t too much talk around a new one. However, his form this season may have changed things. The Brazilian has been fantastic – and we imagine Jurgen Klopp wants him to get a new deal. Pep Lijnders was calling the player ‘world-class’ earlier this season, per the Athletic, suggesting the coaches still love him.
Should Fimrino leave, he’d do so as a club legend.
Naby Keita
Another major expiring contract. Keita is in a strange position, too, as Liverpool’s potential signings would leapfrog him in the pecking order.
So would he actually want a new contract? We find it hard to believe that Liverpool could give him the money and the place in the squad that he’d want. Keita, then, could well depart for free.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Once again, an expiring contract. Oxlade-Chamberlain looks certain to depart as he sits in a similar position to Keita, only with a lesser standing in the squad. Perhaps that makes him keener to renew as a squad player but we imagine he’d want to find more regular football elsewhere.

James Milner
Honestly, we think Milner will renew for another year. He is coming to end of his Liverpool contract, though, and there’s every chance that he moves on. Like the two players above, he’d be down the pecking order with any new arrivals.
But Milner is simply wonderful to have around the club. Given he’s already taken wage reductions, we imagine Liverpool will try to negotiate another one.
Adrián
And another expiring deal. It feels like the right time for Adrián to move on, honestly, as he’s behind Caoimhín Kelleher and unlikely to ever get back ahead. It’ll depend on what he wants, though.

Perhaps he’s happy being third-choice at a major club and sees his days of regular first-team football as behind him. As things stand, though, he’s off.
Nat Phillips
Finally, a player Liverpool might sell. Phillips has plenty of time left on his deal but the Liverpool Echo believe he could move on in January.
The Reds would be happy to strike a loan deal with an option to buy of at least £10m. Someone will surely take them up on that.
