Liverpool will qualify for the Champions League this season.
Currently sixth in the Premier League table, the campaign thus far has been relatively poor for the Reds.
After the first three fixtures, Jurgen Klopp’s side had just two points. They disappointed with back-to-back draws to Fulham and Crystal Palace, and then they lost 2-1 to bitter rivals Manchester United.
However, the following game, the team came out all guns blazing. As a result, they walked away with a 9-0 win over Bournemouth – raising confidence levels back up.
This was maintained for a short while, but it didn’t last too long. The Reds beat Newcastle United 2-1 – which is their only loss of the season thus far.
However, a disappointing stalemate against Merseyside rivals Everton brought the hope crashing down.
Liverpool then went through another difficult period. A 3-3 draw against Brighton was followed by a 3-2 loss to Arsenal.
In a huge surprise, the Anfield outfit beat Manchester City 1-0 thanks to a stunning goal from Mohamed Salah.
Another 1-0 win against West Ham saw things looking up, before it was all doom and gloom once again with a 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest and a 2-1 loss to Leeds.
The Reds have since bounced back from the depths of despair, with a 2-1 victory at Tottenham and a 3-1 win over Southampton.
Liverpool will finish fourth
Despite this underwhelming start to the season, we believe Liverpool will finish fourth in the Premier League table.
Currently the Reds sit in sixth place, with 22 points from their opening 14 games.
Man United are four points ahead in fifth, from the same number of matches.
However, third and fourth place sides, Newcastle and Tottenham respectively, have played an extra game. Therefore, Klopp’s men can narrow this game to four and five points.
Over the remainder of the campaign, the Magpies and Spurs are not expected to maintain their good form.
Antonio Conte’s side had already shown signs of decline before the World Cup break, and the Tyneside outfit were already exceeding expectations.
With Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Thiago Alcantara all well rested, Klopp will be hoping his starting XI can hit the ground running.
Possibly illustrating a resemblance to the 2020/21 campaign, Liverpool were extremely poor for a long period of time before they started winning.
As a result, we expect the Reds’ form to pick up during the second half of the season.
Manchester City and Arsenal are obvious runaways in the league. However, third and fourth place are certainly up for grabs.
With a slight hill to climb, there is no guarantee Liverpool will make the top-four.
However, with great quality demonstrated at points over the course of the year, the side should be good enough to secure Champions League qualification.
