‘I saw the game’: Fabinho shares what he spotted about Liverpool whilst watching them play AC Milan

Fabinho has claimed that he was impressed with Liverpool as he watched them against AC Milan last week.

The midfielder wasn’t involved in last Friday’s friendly in Dubai, as he was still yet to return from the World Cup. However, speaking to liverpoolfc.com, Fabinho admitted that he liked what he saw from his teammates.

“Yes. I saw the game against AC Milan and the team played a really good game with good intensity and played good football as well,” said the 29-year-old.

“We scored goals and that’s obviously important for us and yes, in the game against City it was [important] to show that we are there, that we will fight with the best teams because we are one of the best teams as well. So, yes, I hope that we will keep this level because we will need it.”

Fabinho key to Liverpool season renaissance

If last Friday’s game served as encouragement to Liverpool for the rest of the season, then Thursday’s result didn’t necessarily dampen it.

Yes, they ultimately lost. But they gave a near full strength Manchester City side a really good game. Had Darwin Nunez’s finishing been as good as it was against Milan, they may even have won.

So, plenty to be positive about as we head into the second part of this unique season.

One of those reasons should be the return to form of Fabinho. The Brazilian has been one of Jurgen Klopp’s most underwhelming performers all season long.

But with some better displays ahead of the World Cup break, and a pretty good showing on his sole outing in Qatar, that could be about to change.

If Fabinho can turn it around, then Liverpool have a better chance of doing the same. With their No.3 on form, they are a much, much better side.

Should he remind everyone why he finished 14th in this year’s Ballon d’Or, the Reds will soon move up the table.

Fail to do that, and Fabinho could well be replaced at Anfield before too long. Along with several of his midfield colleagues, the jury is out on him right now.
