Jamie Carragher has heard good things about Stefan Bajcetic at Liverpool. The youngster boasts a growing reputation.
Stefan Bajcetic started for Liverpool on Thursday as they took on Manchester City in the EFL Cup. It was a big call from Jurgen Klopp, given the hosts boasted Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan and Rodri in midfield.
Talking before the game, Jamie Carragher wasn’t surprised. He told Sky Sports that he’s heard that Liverpool have ‘real high hopes’ for Bajcetic going forward.
“Bajcetic in midfield, there’s real high hopes of him at the club in terms of going on to establish himself in midfield,” said Carragher. “In pre-season, he did really well in a couple of warmup games against strong opposition.
“Again, he’s come out with flying colours. Yes, it’s a young player – people may say it’s experimenting – but under Jurgen Klopp, he’s given young players a chance, especially in this competition.
“And he is one they have high hopes for.”

Bajcetic struggled against City, in truth. He never truly found any rhythm and we think it was just too intense for him at this stage.
But that’s fine. It was away at Manchester City, after all, and alongside two midfielders who hadn’t played for over a month. You can’t say the same about City’s midfield.
As Carragher says, the hopes for Bajcetic are high and they remain that way after this one. It’s a learning experience – one that should stand him in good stead long-term.
The 18-year-old is still a versatile, confident young player who can play the holding role to a solid level already. This won’t be the final time we see him this season and we feel Bajcetic could be a long-term successor to Fabinho.
Give it another year and he could be having a real impact in games like this. Last night was just too soon.
