Report: What senior FSG sources are now privately telling journalists about selling Liverpool

Insiders of Liverpool owners FSG do not expect the club’s sale to be finalised until the end of 2023.

That’s according to The Athletic, who claim that anonymous ‘senior sources’ have been circulating the timeline to ‘journalists and trusted confidents.’

They have reportedly indicated that they expect to be involved in the sale ‘towards the end’ of next year.

These are said to be ‘private conversations,’ with no public commitment as of yet. This is claimed to be because FSG are still open to hearing out ‘tempting offers’ immediately. Evidently, this would mean bringing the sale forward.

FSG staying true to form

What we know about FSG is that they have a tendency to be meticulous planners. They also like things to have a little mystery about them, with a lot of work going on behind the scenes.

As as result, it shouldn’t be a surprise to hear that they will take their time over a sale of the club. It also shouldn’t be news to any fan that there has been no public timeframe given.

To be fair to FSG, the sale of such a big business can take a long time. As they are simply floating the club out there without a buyer in mind, they also likely have no exact idea how long it could take.

But they should know the level of interest. Moving in the circles that they do, they’ve surely been able to take a reading of how hot the interest in Liverpool currently is.

So, unless something drastic happens over the coming months, it’s probably safe to stick to this timeline.

What about the transfer market?

What that means for the next two transfer windows is anybody’s guess. Liverpool have, quite strangely, been linked with making one or two pretty enormous moves in the market.

Usually, these are shot down pretty quickly by a handful of local journalists. In the case of Jude Bellingham, the very opposite has happened. Liverpool are clearly ready to make a big move for him.

Enzo Fernandez is the other player said to be subject to a ‘monster’ bid from Anfield. Their interest in the World Cup winner is yet to be clarified or denied either way. So, if they are to make these their last two windows, it seems as though FSG may be willing to go out with a pretty big bang.
