Liverpool youngster Ben Doak looks set to be in the squad to face Manchester City this evening.
As per Liverpool FC on Twitter, the 17-year-old was left out of the Reds FA Youth Cup match against Bournemouth this afternoon.
With Doak catching Jurgen Klopp’s eye during the recent training camp in Dubai, he looks set to be with the first team instead.
That would be actually make it three matchday squads in a row for the teenager. Having come off the bench for his Liverpool debut against Derby County, he was then on the bench for last month’s 3-1 win over Southampton.
Reds fans looking forward to tonight
Tonight’s game promises to be an exciting one for Liverpool fans, for a number of reasons.
Firstly, the Reds are back in action after a near six-week break. Great news! Next, the opponents are City – these two teams usually serve up a treat of a game. Thirdly, the emergence of a talent like Doak is reason to celebrate in itself.
Nobody wants to put too much pressure on the young Scot, but he really does look like an exceptional prospect.
He underlined that once more when coming on during Liverpool’s friendly win over AC Milan last week. Doak was only on the pitch for around 10 minutes, but in that time he hit the post and set up Darwin Nunez for a tap-in.
Against Derby on his competitive Liverpool debut, he looked like causing trouble every time he got the ball.
Obviously, playing against City would be a big step up for Doak. It would be a huge leap of faith for Klopp to start the teenager, and we don’t think he will.
But against a weakened Pep Guardiola team, there is the chance for him to make a bit of an impact.
It will probably depend on the way the game is going as to whether Klopp decides to throw Doak on at the Etihad. Whatever the scenario though, expect him to get bums off seats if he does.
