Andy Robertson has made a claim about the goals Man City scored vs Liverpool on Thursday evening. City scored 3 to the Reds’ 2.
Liverpool slumped to a 3-2 defeat at the Etihad on Thursday, with Manchester City progressing in the EFL Cup. It was a disappointing game, but particularly because of the goals they conceded.
Andy Robertson made the point after the game. The Scot claimed all three of City’s goals were preventable – but the Reds switched off.
“Yeah, disappointing,” he told Sky Sports. “Every one of them could have probably been stopped.

“The third one, we’ve done well to block the cross and then kind of switched off. The first two could have been avoided, as well. So look, that’s what we have to look at, that’s what we have to stop.
“We always have to be switched on.”
Man City goals vs Liverpool
Robertson has nailed the feeling coming out of that one. The first goal was brilliant movement from Erling Haaland but Joe Gomez should have taken charge of the situation. It was just a little slow.
In fact, ‘just a little slow’ sums up all three goals. Perhaps that’s just a side-effect of so many players having not played competitive football for over a month.
City, after all, used many stars from the World Cup. Nathan Aké, Aymeric Laporte, Rodri, Ilkay Gundogan, Kevin De Bruyne – all five were in Qatar. All five looked like it, too, in how quickly they found rhythm.

We do believe that Liverpool were eventually reap the rewards of having so few players at the World Cup. The extra fitness should mean the Reds can hit a higher level come April or May.
This time, though, the opposite was true. Liverpool needed more time to get up to their best, many City players were already there. We’ll hold onto that hope, anyway, because as Robertson says, this one was disappointing.
