Kostas Tsimikas has claimed that he now hates being away from Liverpool, as the Reds return from Dubai.

The Liverpool squad have spent the last couple of weeks in the Middle East as they prepare for the season’s return. Now back, Tsimikas sat down with The Athletic, where he spoke about his love for his adopted home.

“The weather was certainly better over there [in Dubai], but I’ve missed this city. I’ve missed playing at our castle. The people have been so kind and friendly to me from the day I arrived at this club,” he enthused.

“It was nice to have a break but now we can’t wait to get back out there. There is so much that we can still achieve as a team between now and the end of the season.”

Tsimikas winning hearts in Liverpool

There can’t have been many players in Liverpool’s storied past who have embraced the club quite like Tsimikas.

From the tongue in cheek ‘Scouse Greek’ moniker, to his popularity with teammates, the 26-year-old has been all in since his £11.7m move from Olympiacos.

As detailed in his chat with The Athletic, he is also lending support to local Liverpool charity the Owen McVeigh Foundation.

With the launch of his new fashion range, Tsimikas is giving 20 per cent of profits to the cancer charity.

“It’s important for me to have that connection with the community and hopefully the fans will love my designs. The feedback so far has been good,” Kostas explains.

It’s a nice move and one that’s clearly born from a love of the city he has called home for less than three years.

As Tsimikas mentions, the weather in Liverpool isn’t quite Dubai, or Thessaloniki, where the left-back hails from. But Merseyside has plenty of other ways of winning your heart.

As time goes on, Kostas has gone about winning a few hearts of his own from the locals, too.
