The agent of Ben Doak has shared the first words Jurgen Klopp told the teenager before his move to Liverpool this year. It’s safe to say it went down well.

Ben Doak has been a revelation since arriving at Liverpool from Celtic this year. In fact, he’s been so good at youth level that there’s a sense he could break into the first-team setup before long.

And that’s from a player who only recently turned 17. The Reds have a special one here.

But then, they knew that when they signed him. Doak had actually made his professional debut before arriving, with Celtic giving him a few minutes as they tried to tie him down. Instead, he made the jump to Anfield – and we’re very grateful for that.

His agent, former Celtic and Scotland full-back Jackie McNamara, recently talked to the BBC about Doak. He shared Jurgen Klopp’s first words with the teenager – words that helped sway the player towards Liverpool.

“When Ben went down to visit Liverpool, Klopp said, ‘Ah Ben, I’ve seen your stuff.'” said McNamara. “Straight away, he was made to feel really welcome.”

What Jurgen Klopp told Ben Doak

That’s got to mean the world to a teenager like that. Doak may have had a growing reputation already but here’s one of the greatest managers on the planet – and one of the game’s biggest figures – telling you he’s watched your stuff.

That’s going to sway any kid towards Liverpool. It’s also a fantastic example of just how much work Klopp puts into his job. He absolutely doesn’t have to watch footage of 16-year-old prospects in order to do his job for the senior side.

And yet, he does – because the club pretty much revolves around the German right now. Klopp knew what Liverpool were getting in Doak and we can comfortably say that the teenager is exceeding expectations already.

We can’t wait to see what he can become once Klopp is working with him full-time.
