Liverpool reportedly want to sign attacker who Bellingham says is one of the top three players in the world

Liverpool are reportedly back in the running to make a huge summer bid for PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe.

According to Sport, Liverpool are one of the clubs monitoring the Frenchman’s current situation. Mbappe is said to be ready to push hard for a move away from the Paris club next year. As part of his pitch, the player has reportedly told PSG to entertain bids of around £130m.

Of course, Liverpool are already embroiled in a transfer battle involving similarly enormous figures. If things go as hoped the Reds will be spending the same kind of fee on Jude Bellingham.

That’s still a way off, though, as top clubs continue to try to convince Bellingham to sign for them instead. Perhaps one way of securing Jude’s signature would be to pursue a sensational double swoop involving Mbappe.

“Mbappe’s a brilliant player. One of the top two or three or one in the world,” the 19-year-old told beIN SPORTS via Metro ahead of England’s quarter-final loss against France.

It would be the most sensational double signing since PSG signed Mbappe himself alongside Neymar in 2017. Unfortunately, it’s surely well beyond Liverpool’s means right now.

Mbappe or Bellingham?

If Liverpool are put in a position where they have to choose whether to sign Kylian Mbappe or Jude Bellingham, there’s surely only one winner.

Mbappe may have just plundered a World Cup final hat-trick, but Jude is the man the Reds need.

Jurgen Klopp has a number of top quality forwards to pick from at the moment. Although Mbappe is arguably a step up on any of them, it isn’t enough to justify spending such a big fee – along with the wages that would come with it.

Instead, Liverpool badly, badly need a freshening up in the middle of the pitch. Bellingham has long been seen as the player to remedy that and has all the makings of being a future captain, too.

Although Mbappe isn’t exactly an old man at twenty-four, Bellingham still has five years on him as well. Simply put, Liverpool would get more bang for their buck with the Borussia Dortmund man.

With the Frenchman there is also always the lingering suspicion that he’s waiting for a move to Real Madrid. Bring Bellingham to Anfield and Reds fans will perhaps expect him to see the rest of his career through on Merseyside.

So, that should be that. But maybe Liverpool really will try the impossible and make a move for both players. Strange things have been going on behind the scenes at the club of late. But this would absolutely top them all.
