‘I sacrifice myself’: Chelsea star says he’d drop himself for player Liverpool reportedly want

Chelsea’s Jorginho says he’d drop himself for Jude Bellingham. The English midfielder is a target for the Blues and Liverpool.

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho gave an interview for Sky Italia this week that was a little strange. It ended with the midfielder essentially just walking off after they asked about his future with the Blues.

“I’d say we’re done with the questions… Bye! Bye!” he said, laughing, as they asked if he was staying with Chelsea.

The question before perhaps didn’t help. Sky asked Jorginho the classic ‘start one, bench one, sell one’ question and included him in the trio. Jorginho, Luka Modric and Jude Bellingham.

“Are you kidding? What game is this?” he asked, again laughing. “All right, I answer, there’s no problem.

“I sell myself; I sacrifice myself. Then I put Modric as starter and take Bellingham to the bench.”

Jorginho on Jude Bellingham

It’s a strange little interview, really, but notable nonetheless that Jorginho paid Bellingham some respect there. Especially as, by all accounts, Chelsea do want to sign the England star.

And with Jorginho’s future in doubt, Bellingham will be targeted as a replacement. An awkward one for him, then.

Not that it appears Bellingham will move to Stamford Bridge. The suggestions are that Liverpool actually lead the race, with the Mirror claiming that Jordan Henderson plays a big role in that.

The Reds quite clearly view the 19-year-old as something incredibly special and continue their pursuit despite talk of a £130m price tag. It would certainly be new territory for Liverpool to pay anything like that amount. But then, Bellingham is exactly the kind of player you break new ground for.

2023 promises to be a massive year, then, as team fight for Bellingham’s signature. We can only hope that it’s not Chelsea – we’d much rather they start Jorginho.
