Report: What American sources are now expecting John Henry to do next, as Liverpool sale drags on

Sources in America are not expecting Liverpool’s proposed takeover to happen any time soon.

That’s according to the Liverpool Echo. They claim that those back in FSG’s homeland are anticipating John Henry to take his time over the sale.

The sources, who are said to be ‘well-placed,’ suggest that Henry could even still back out of a sale completely. Should no ‘major offer’ be forthcoming, FSG would reportedly be happy to stay on at Liverpool.

That’s a scenario that some partners are still said to be favouring, too. RedBird Capital are named as one party ‘keen’ to see FSG continue their stewardship of the club.

However, other ‘minority’ partners are reportedly more ‘open’ to the idea of cashing out. It’s claimed that this is what drove Henry and FSG to get a valuation of the club.

So, new investment is still said to be the order of the day. But if a bidder comes in with a ‘serious plan,’ FSG are reportedly open to a full sale, too. Either way, it appears that Mr Henry won’t be rushed into a quick decision. This may drag on for some time.

FSG still operating in the shadows

Since FSG seemingly put Liverpool up for sale last month, there has been plenty of mixed messages filtering out.

Plenty of potential owners have been put forward, but nothing serious has come from any of them so far. There have also been a number of claims and counter claims about whether FSG would like a full sale, or merely new investment.

In many ways, this little saga can serve to nicely sum up the American’s time in charge of Liverpool.

A lot of the time, Reds supporters have no real idea as to what’s going on behind the scenes at their club. While Henry and co tend to speak positively and reassuringly in the press, their actions in the background are doing just the opposite.

The botched European Super League is the perfect example of that. FSG were heavily involved in detonating the bomb that landed on UEFA’s desk in April 2021. And yet, supporters had no inkling of any such plan until the news dropped.

Prior to that, Henry’s joint ‘project big picture’ pitch with the Glazer family at Manchester United was another bust. Another plan that had been formulated in the shadows.

With FSG, you never quite know where you stand until the sands shift abruptly beneath your feet. No doubt that will be exactly the same with the takeover, too.
