Darwin Nunez was all smiles in Liverpool training today as he linked up with the Reds squad out in Dubai, following Uruguay’s group stage exit at the World Cup.

The 23-year-old started all of his nation’s group games out in Qatar, but he was unable to guide Diego Alonso’s side to round of 16 qualification.

Despite matching South Korea’s points tally and goal difference with a 2-0 win over Ghana, Uruguay crashed out of the tournament on goals scored.

Following this disappointment, Nunez has now returned to be with the Liverpool squad.

Pictured in training today on the Reds’ Twitter account, the attacker was beaming as he greeted staff and players alike.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are currently preparing for Friday’s Dubai Super Cup clash against AC Milan, and the striker is expected feature in the manager’s starting XI.

In spite of the disappointment of the World Cup, hopefully Nunez can put this aside and get back firing to where he left off in a Reds shirt.

The forward has got off to a strong start this season. In 18 games for the club, the Uruguayan has impressively bagged nine goals, including three in the Champions League.

He has already shown improvements with his technical ability, for which he has been unfairly criticised over the past few months.

Nunez’s electric pace and habit to cause chaos has been a lot to handle for unsuspecting Premier League defences. Able to play off the left or down the middle, his brute strength and aerial prowess make him a dangerous threat in the opposition box.

Hailed by Anfield legend Robbie Fowler as an ‘incredible’ player, Klopp will be excited to have the youngster back in training.

With Luis Diaz out of action until March, we could see Nunez utilised on the wing far more regularly during the second half of the campaign.
