Liverpool have an agreement in place for Enzo Fernández, according to reports. The Benfica midfielder could move in 2023.
This comes from La Capital in Argentina. They claim that Liverpool have an agreement in principle with Benfica for Enzo Fernández.
The belief is that Liverpool moved for a pre-agreement after Enzo performed so well at the World Cup. The 21-year-old has forced his way into Argentina’s first-XI as they prepare for a semi-final this week.
And the growing interest pushed Liverpool into action. They’ve talked with Benfica about a deal for 2023 and now have an agreement – in principle. Nothing is formally signed and the player must agree to a contract but this would be a massive coup for the Reds.
Liverpool reach Enzo Fernández agreement
Wow. If this is true, it’s enormous for a number of reasons and would have a dramatic effect on Liverpool going forward.
So let’s start with the obvious – Enzo is a sensational talent and one who is ‘perfect’, in the words of Joe Cole. He can do just about everything in midfield, after all.
He is already the exact kind of midfielder that Jurgen Klopp wants. He’s defensively sound, hard-working and can influence in the final third. His strength is that there’s no obvious weakness – a remarkably versatile player.

So if Liverpool are signing Enzo, that’s wonderful. But what would it mean for Jude Bellingham? He, after all, is the one the Reds really want and we find it impossible to believe that they’d push forward with Enzo and jeopardise that deal.
Unless, of course, they believe they can sign both. That would be utterly ridiculous and we can’t see it possibly happening – but it’s also the only way to make sense of this.
La Capital’s information could be incorrect, of course, and we’d want more outlets reporting the same thing before feeling truly confident. At face value, though, this would be a remarkable deal that also asks several more questions of Liverpool.
