‘I think we were lucky’: Klopp delivers immediate injury update on Liverpool star

Jurgen Klopp believes Liverpool have been lucky with Harvey Elliott’s injury today. The midfielder left the game against Lyon early.

Liverpool suffered a 3-1 defeat to Lyon on Sunday but we imagine they’ll brush that one off quickly. What may be harder to brush off is Harvey Elliott going off injury early in the game.

Elliott didn’t last long at all in Dubai and in the wake of Luis Díaz’s problem, it’s a real concern for Liverpool. Fortunately, it sounds as though there’s nothing to really worry about.

“Harvey got a knock before we scored,” said Jurgen Klopp after the game, per the Liverpool Echo. “I think we were lucky. He’s fine.”

Harvey Elliott’s injury

It’s felt this season that every injury has led to a spell of weeks or months on the sidelines. Ibrahima Konaté got injured in the final pre-season friendly and missed months. Naby Keita picked up an issues in the Community Shield and only today made a return.

There have been long-term injuries to Diogo Jota, Luis Díaz (twice), Thiago, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – and probably some others we’re forgetting. Arthur arrived, played 13 minutes, then got ruled out until February.

In other words, it hasn’t been a lucky season. Seeing Elliott go down early, then, was a massive concern as he’s been one of Liverpool’s most consistent players this season.

But he seems to be fine. That’s an enormous relief, assuming Klopp’s information is correct, and Liverpool should be able to proceed with this break as normal. Well, as normal as it can be after Díaz’s problem that could keep him out until March.

Darwin Nunez returns on Monday, adding to the group as Liverpool slowly get back together. The second half of the season will be massive for the Reds after struggling at times this campaign. Having everyone together as a unit helps that enormously – but it means keeping players fit, as well as integrating those returning from Qatar.
