Fabrizio Romano has shared how Jurgen Klopp reacted to missing out on the Germany job. The Liverpool boss was always going to face rumours.
Germany suffered an early exit at the World Cup, despite high expectations for the side. Defeat to Japan in their opening game made life incredibly difficult – though, their performance wasn’t as bad as it looks.
After all, they only fell behind Spain on goal difference. Luis Enrique’s side left the group stage as a potential favourite to win the trophy, whereas Germany were labelled terrible.
And perhaps that’s why Hansi Flick will retain his job as head coach of Germany. They’re sticking with the Treble-winning manager for the next Euros. But that means giving up on Jurgen Klopp.
The Liverpool boss will forever be linked with the Germany job. Once again, there were rumours of interest this week. Fabrizio Romano, however, says Klopp never really had interest.
“Jurgen Klopp was never keen on being appointed as new Germany manager,” Romano wrote on Twitter. “He’s 100% focused on Liverpool now, already discussing new signings with the board and insisting for Bellingham.
“Klopp and Liverpool board will also decide together on player contract situations.”
Jurgen Klopp didn’t want Germany job
We do wonder what Klopp would say to a formal approach. Some people feel a form of duty when the national team comes calling, after all.
But we’ve never thought he’d leave Liverpool for the role. For one, national team management just doesn’t seem to suit Klopp the same way club management does. He likes to build relationships with players, he wants to thrive on momentum and grow a consistent style of play.

All of that is difficult to do when you’re only with the players for a couple of weeks every other month. So even if Germany do formally come calling, we’re not particularly worried that Klopp would take the job.
What’s certain, though, is that he won’t get the call anytime soon and can focus entirely on Liverpool.
