Liverpool teenager Max Woltman says it’s ‘crazy how good’ Roberto Firmino is. The Reds’ coaches want him to study the Brazilian.

Max Woltman is one of several Liverpool youngsters out on loan right now. He’s at Doncaster Rovers, where he’s struggling a little to get into the side.

The important thing, though, is that Woltman is getting minutes here and there. Exposure to senior football is vital for the 19-year-old – especially when he’s a talent that Liverpool like.

They appear to see him as something like Roberto Firmino. To the point, in fact, where the Reds’ coaches want Woltman to watch the Brazilian in senior training. And that always shows the teenager just how good Liverpool’s best players are.

“Every single one of them is ridiculous,” he told the Liverpool Echo. “They’re the best team in Europe in my eyes and when you’re training with them, it’s unbelievable.

“You have to adapt and be ready for when you are called upon. Pep Lijnders and the other coaches talk to me. They ask me to watch little things of Firmino. That’s where you see the levels in the game, through Europe and that.

“Watching his first touch and everything, it’s just crazy how good he is. The things he can do on the ball and off it, his work-rate and everything, it’s just a different class.”

Woltman can’t believe how good Roberto Firmino is

Well this is in stark contrast to Wayne Rooney’s experience with the Everton senior side. A clip of him went viral this week where he explained that it took no time to realise that the players he’d idolised were… not good.

For teenagers to step into this Liverpool side, though, it must be unbelievably intimidating. These kids move from being the absolute best in the age group to being miles off the pace.

It makes it all the more remarkable that players like Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones can fit in so quickly, then. They met the required level and that, above all, is a sign of their quality.

Woltman has a long way to go before he’s there but there’s really no better player to help get you there than Firmino.
