‘I love him’: Chairman says ‘sensational’ World Cup striker should be wanting to join Liverpool now

France superstar Kylian Mbappe should definitely be considering a move to Liverpool at some stage of his career.

Mbappe is arguably the most feared forward in world football at the moment. His displays in Qatar have lit up the World Cup as France hunt for back-to-back titles.

But, according to Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony, the 23-year-old needs a move to the Premier League to truly realise his potential. Speaking on his The Hard Truth Podcast, MacAnthony suggested a move to Liverpool would give Mbappe an even greater legacy.

“He can be as good as he wants to be. He can be sensational. What I want to see him do is do it in England or Spain. I don’t rate the French league,” said the chairman, who’s a Liverpool fan.

“He should be at Madrid or, not Man City! But playing for Liverpool in the Premier League. He would do what Thierry Henry did five times over in the Premier League. I love him.”

The Henry stuff may be an exaggeration, but there’s no doubt that a move to England or Spain feels like the next step for Kylian.

Mbappe focused on World Cup exploits, for now

Rumours that Mbappe is once again looking for a way out at PSG have quietened down over recent weeks.

Back in October, the lightning-fast forward was said to be deeply unhappy with his situation at the French Champions. As a result, whispers that he could join Liverpool grew a little louder.

However, with the World Cup now dominating headlines, talk of a move away from his home city has been shelved.

Given how good he has been in Qatar, PSG will hope that the winds of discontent do not blow Mbappe’s way again. But as we’ve seen before with the £166m man, drama is never far away.

Usually, this is exactly the kind of player that Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp would, and should, stay away from. Mbappe is a special talent though, and if there’s any inkling that he could be available, the Reds have to throwing their hat into the ring.

For now, it would appear he’s back to being settled at the perennial Ligue 1 winners. But MacAnthony can’t be the only Liverpool fan out there still dreaming of an unlikely move to Merseyside.
