The agent of reported Liverpool transfer target Sofyan Amrabat has claimed that he’s had ‘lots of calls’ about his client.

Amrabat has emerged as a potential new midfield addition for Liverpool and is enjoying a stellar World Cup with Morocco.

Now, talking to journalist Fabrizio Romano via Twitter, the 26-year-old’s agent has stoked the fires of a move. Amrabat’s representative responded specifically to Romano’s questions of a transfer to the Premier League.

“Of course, I get a lot of phone calls for Sofyan. The whole world has seen he’s the best holding midfielder of the World Cup,” he said. “Sofyan is top professional, he’s focused on the World Cup with Morocco.”

Amrabat shows what he could bring to Liverpool

Well, if some Liverpool fans weren’t sold on the idea of signing Amrabat to bolster the midfield, yesterday’s display against Spain should have changed that.

The Moroccan was absolutely everywhere. Combative and with quality on the ball, the Fiorentina man looks to have a rare blend of power and finesse.

Of course, we know how dangerous judging players off the back of the World Cup can be. Liverpool should know that better than most, having been stung with big moves for Senegalese duo El Hadj Diouf and Salif Diao back in 2002.

But with scouting so much more thorough these days, the Reds won’t make any signing based on a handful of appearances.

Still, it’s worth keeping a close eye on Amrabat as Morocco take on Portugal in Saturday’s quarter final. If he can do well again, then his agent’s phone may start ringing off the hook.

As a result, it will be interesting to see what Liverpool do next. After to his performance against Spain, Amrabat was said to be available for ‘more than’ £25m.

With the Spain game in mind, Fiorentina may now be expecting to fetch a little more for their player. As he probably wouldn’t be a regular starter at Liverpool, the Reds may not want to get into a bidding war.

On the other hand, Amrabat is proving that he is capable of being a proper option for a side like Liverpool. One thing’s for sure though: the Reds won’t be taken for a ride by the agent of any player, no matter how good.
