Liverpool have now made contact with the representatives of Valencia midfielder Yunus Musah to register their interest over a potential move.

That’s reported by 90min, who claim the 20-year-old is on Jurgen Klopp’s radar, after an impressive spell at the World Cup with the United States national team.

It is said the La Liga club have opened contract talks with the youngster, in an attempt to fend off interest from the Premier League.

This is despite his current deal running until 2026, which also includes a mammoth £86m release clause.

With Valencia struggling down in tenth place in the Spanish top-flight, English clubs have identified Musah as a possible transfer target.

Liverpool interested in Musah

At just 20-years-old, Musah was an emphatic standout in the USA midfield out in Qatar. He has already amassed 22 appearances for the national team – much to Gareth Southgate’s regret.

Born in New York City, Musah moved to England as a nine-year-old and spent seven years at the Arsenal academy.

Convinced by his agent to reject the Gunners’ contract offer and make the move to Spain, the player had already represented the Three Lions at youth level – from the U15’s up to the U18’s.

Born to Ghanaian parents and having spent his childhood in Italy, he had the choice to represent four different nations at international level.

Musah decided to go with the USMNT, with their manager, Gregg Berhalter, seemingly playing a huge part in that decision. Southgate wasn’t too happy with the decision, having claimed: “Obviously they (USA) took one of ours (Musah), which we weren’t very happy about but, fair play!”

Hailed as ‘incredible’ by former Valencia coach Jose Bordalas, the youngster has caught the attention of Liverpool’s recruitment staff.

Having made contact ahead of the January window, it awaits to be seen whether the Reds will make a move to sign him or not.
