Starring at the World Cup and hot property on the transfer market, Joskvo Gvardiol could currently have his pick of any club on the planet.
However, it appears that if Joskvo had his way, he’d soon be on his way to Anfield. As per TalkSPORT, the 20-year-old, who has been a revelation in Qatar, is actually a Liverpool fan.
“Since I was a little boy, my dad and I watched Liverpool matches, and I grew up with only them,” Gvardiol previously told Croatia news outlet 24Sata.
“When I took football more seriously, I started following them, and I definitely want the Premier League and Liverpool.”
With the Reds soon to be on the lookout for a successor to Virgil van Dijk, maybe they should take the RB Leipzig man’s words into account.
If they don’t, it looks a sure bet that one of their Champions League rivals will.
Gvardiol’s star keeps rising
Gvardiol has been rumoured to be on the watch-list of Europe’s top teams long before this winter’s World Cup.
As per The Daily Mail, Chelsea reportedly had a £75m bid for him rejected during the summer transfer window. They’ll now be kicking themselves for not going just a little higher, as more teams enter the race.
Gvardiol’s performances over the last two weeks for Croatia have really cemented his status as a burgeoning star. The youngster is yet to miss a minute of his country’s four games so far.
As they prepare to take on Brazil in the quarter final, they’ll be looking to Gvardiol to keep things tonight alongside ex-Red Dejan Lovren.
Notoriously thorough in their recruitment process, perhaps Liverpool will be asking Lovren to give them a detailed report of his teammate’s personality.
If the Reds do then decide to enter the race, it would seem that they already have a leg up. Regardless, Gvardiol looks ready for a big move in the coming months. Whether that ends up being to his dream club, only time will tell.
