Real Madrid believe Liverpool may have fallen behind in the race for Jude Bellingham, according to reports. The Reds are desperate to get him.

This comes from Sky Sports. They claim that Real Madrid now see Manchester City – not Liverpool – as the biggest threat for Jude Bellingham.

The Reds have pushed incredibly hard to sign the midfielder over the last year or two. It’s the most open secret at the club, in fact, and we can’t remember the last time a transfer pursuit was quite this obvious.

But it appears that City and Real may be ahead – despite all of the Reds’ efforts. However, Sky’s report makes it clear that selling the footballing project is the deciding factor for Bellingham.

Real intend to do that by pushing the teenager’s Ballon d’Or chances. They’re undeniably higher with Los Blancos, after all, and they feel it could be the factor that pushes Bellingham to Madrid.

City’s financial power is what they fear the most, however.

Jude Bellingham race

Liverpool have never competed for the world’s best players or the biggest targets. That’s just how it’s always been and it’s worth remembering in this race.

The Reds will be achieving something remarkable if they do sign Bellingham but it couldn’t be further from a sure-thing. Real and City are two of the most difficult teams in the world to compete with but that’s the reality here.

But it’s also worth noting that other factors are at play here. There have been reports of Real not wanting to meet Dortmund’s asking price, which would simply rule them out. City, too, may not be a club that Dortmund particularly want to deal with.

If both turn out to be true, Liverpool could be in a more promising position with Bellingham than most realise. But as with it all, there’s a long way to go and so much uncertainty. We’ll just cross our fingers for 2023.
