Virgil van Dijk shared his thoughts on a possible Liverpool sale as FSG seek investment in the Reds. It could happen in 2023.
FSG currently have Liverpool up for sale, of course, in a move that plunges the club into uncertainty. No one actually knows what kind of sale it’ll be, let alone who might get their hands on the Reds.
The current ownership could let the whole club go but they may settle for minority investment. That way they could hang onto Liverpool but also introduce new ideas and, more importantly, new financing.
The reality is, though, that new owners aren’t necessarily a positive thing. There are plenty of clubs in poor situations – even some of the world’s biggest. Thus there’s that uncertainty hovering over Anfield right now.
Virgil van Dijk naturally faced questions on the situation and he delivered a diplomatic answer while on World Cup duty.
“I have full trust in Liverpool that they will be fine,” he said, per the Liverpool Echo. “We are a very established club, one of the biggest in the world and that will stay that way.
“Whoever comes in to fill in those roles, they will do very well. I am aware of everything that is happening.”
Virgil van Dijk on Liverpool sale
Van Dijk is almost certainly right. Whoever can front the cash to buy Liverpool – billions, in other words – does so knowing they can’t really change all that much. It makes little sense to spend that kind of money to send the club backwards, after all.

Liverpool will probably be fine, then. There will always be that doubt, though, and some potential owners aren’t exactly morally ‘acceptable’. There is a possibility that things end up a little messy, though FSG selling a minority stake mitigates that slightly.
The Reds will likely be fine as Van Dijk says, then. We’d still like answers quickly, though – just to confirm that and rule out the worst-case scenarios.
