Real Madrid have included Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez on their shortlist as they look for a new striker.
That’s according to Spanish outlet Defensa Central, who claim that Nunez is tentatively on the list to replace Karim Benzema.
It’s claimed that Madrid have been scouting the Liverpool forward at the ongoing World Cup. As well as Darwin, the European Champions are reportedly taking a look at Cody Gakpo, Richarlison and Gabriel Jesus.
However, it’s claimed that of that quartet, only Gakpo is currently impressing those at Santiago Bernabeu.
Darwin not on the market
This sounds a little farfetched to us. If Madrid were seriously interested in Nunez, they would have taken a run at him last summer.
Although he has recently come into his own at Liverpool, it’s unlikely he’d have alerted any suitors between the summer and now.
Not that his performances haven’t been worth it. He’s obviously a superb player. Jurgen Klopp has hailed the ‘incredible potential’ the 22-year-old has, and he is all set to be a big player at Anfield for years to come.
Given the time, there’s every chance he’d be able to settle in at Real Madrid, too.
But for all of those reasons, he obviously isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. The same could really be said of both Jesus and Richarlison, who only moved clubs last summer, too.
Gakpo is likely on the market, but you wouldn’t put him as being in the same bracket as Benzema, stylistically.
Either way, if Madrid are watching Nunez at the World Cup, they won’t have been much impressed. The Liverpool man has failed to spark as Uruguay struggle through the group.
That’s not a matter for the Spaniard’s to concern themselves with, though. Nunez is all ours, keep your hands off!
