Liverpool’s reported Sporting Director candidate Sven Mislintat won’t join the club, according to BILD journalist Christian Falk.
A previous report from Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg claimed the former Arsenal man was a potential replacement for Julian Ward at Anfield.
The 50-year-old has a strong relationship with Jurgen Klopp, as he was the manager’s chief scout whilst at Borussia Dortmund.
However, Falk has denied these reports, claiming talks have not taken place and that Mislintat won’t be joining the Reds.
Mislintat won’t be joining Liverpool
With Ward’s unexpected departure from the club, operations behind the scenes require a reliable replacement.
Following so many changes within the backroom staff at Kirkby, a level of consistency and reliability is needed for the transitions to go as smoothly as possible.
Although many fans were against Mislintat’s arrival due to a number of questionable signings he made whilst he was in charge at Arsenal, the swift appointment would have eased certain worries.
Although it is important Liverpool get the right person in, a quick turnaround would be extremely helpful. Ward was there to learn and take the reins from Michael Edwards, so a similar situation towards the end of the season would be ideal for the club.
Otherwise, the Reds’ upcoming transfer windows could go to waste, when in reality, a big overhaul of the squad is needed. Especially if Klopp’s side want to compete for a Premier League title again anytime soon.
