Liverpool have seen another staff departure, making it five in the last three weeks. The Reds are seeing change all over the place.
Rangers announced on Thursday that they’d signed Jack Ade to join Michael Beale’s backroom staff. Ade leaves Liverpool, where he’s been ‘Head of Elite Fitness Development and under-21 fitness coach’, says a statement from the Glaswegians.
It’s not a huge shock, of course, given Beale’s previous role at Liverpool’s academy.
It comes on a day when legendary youth coach Steve Heighway retired from football. He’s been a figure at Anfield since 1970, first as an outstanding winger before moving into a youth role. He helped bring through the likes of Steve McManaman, Robbie Fowler, Michael Owen, Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard, and has worked in a consultancy role for the last seven years.
Liverpool see another departure
Go back a week and Liverpool were seeing their third departure in the space of two weeks. Now it’s five in three weeks.
Mike Gordon is the biggest, having been FSG’s primary man at Liverpool. He’s now helping the club find investment as CEO Billy Hogan takes an increase role.
Julian Ward, who took over as sporting director in the summer, will now step down at the end of the season. That’s a shock to everyone and, reportedly, Gordon’s own exit played a part.
Ian Graham also resigned last week. He’s Liverpool’s Head of Research and reportedly seen as one of the ‘best in the business’.
The uncertainty at Liverpool is truly remarkable right now. They did manage to find a club doctor but other than that, they’re losing people at a remarkable rate right now.
And all of this while the club is up for sale and the playing staff may need drastic changes. At this rate, Liverpool will look completely different this time next year.
