Fabrizio Romano delivered an update on Enzo Fernández that includes a certain clause. Liverpool reportedly want the player.
Enzo Fernández is quickly becoming one of the most exciting young midfielders around. He already was that before the World Cup, in truth. His performances for Argentina in Qatar only increase the hype.
Benfica will know they can’t hold onto the player forever, of course. They never do when it comes to their stars and Enzo will depart at some point. But the Argentine only arrived in January – the Portuguese giants at least have some power to keep him for the rest of the season.
Fabrizio Romano says they’ll do just that – anyone wanting him in January must meet his release clause. But he also revealed a piece of information that shows why Enzo will be a difficult transfer for everyone.
“The release clause included into Enzo Fernández contract with Benfica is worth €120m,” Romano wrote on Twitter. “Club has no intention to sell Enzo or let him leave in January.
“River Plate also have percentage of future sale on Enzo.”

Record, A Bola, and O Jogo all believe Liverpool are there in the running for Enzo next summer. But he won’t come cheap. The fact that River boast a percentage of the fee means Benfica will want a fortune for him.
Enzo, after all, is already rated as the most valuable player outside of Europe’s top 5 leagues. He’ll cost an incredible amount anyway, likely in line with what Liverpool paid for Darwin Nunez.
But if River also get a portion of that? Benfica aren’t going to let his price drop too far below that £103m release clause. In fact, they could simply hold onto that clause if Enzo keeps delivering at the World Cup.
At this rate, someone will end up paying it.
