‘For sure’: Zabaleta claims 21-year-old countryman is now likely to leave his club, amid Liverpool interest

Former Argentina international Pablo Zabaleta has claimed World Cup star Enzo Fernandez will ‘go to a big club’ in the summer, amid rumours Liverpool want to sign him from Benfica.

Speaking on Match of the Day ahead of his country’s final group game against Poland, the Manchester City hero spoke of the 21-year-old, following his impressive performances out in Qatar.

“I am so happy about this (Fernandez starting for Argentina),” said Zabaleta.

“He has been really good in both games, he came off the bench and was one of the best players for Argentina.

“He’s a young player, only 21 and he has been terrific for Benfica. I think next summer, he will go to a big club, for sure.

“But he has a vision. He is intelligent. His passing and shooting ability is great and work-rate is also good.

“He can play as a number four, in front of that back four, but also as a number eight.”

According to Sport, the Reds are keen to lure the youngster to Anfield.

However, Record now claim Manchester United join them in the race.

Zabaleta says Liverpool linked Fernandez will leave next summer

Already amassing strong speculation prior to the World Cup, rumours will now be flying after the youngster’s incredible displays out in Qatar.

At just 21-years-old, Fernandez has emerged as one of the biggest prospects in European football, and rightly so.

Playing for Benfica in the Champions League this term, the midfielder assisted against Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus – demonstrating that he really is a big-game player.
