Dortmund director gives very interesting response when asked if he’s selling Bellingham to Liverpool

Borussia Dortmund’s managing director has insisted that the German club have a ‘good relationship’ with Liverpool.

The Reds are hoping to win the crowded race for Dortmund’s coveted midfielder Jude Bellingham next summer. Given the obvious links between the two clubs – i.e. Mr Jurgen Klopp – some Liverpool fans may be hoping for ‘mates rates’ on the transfer.

But asked by Vietnam News about Liverpool’s interest, it’s clear that this won’t be the case. Although Cramer does admit that those at Dortmund do have a soft spot for Liverpool, he promised there’ll be ‘no gifts’ in relation to Bellingham.

“We have a high sympathy for Liverpool for sure,” said the director. “We are still in a good relationship to Jurgen and many others at Liverpool, so for me, it’s my preferred club in EPL as well. But don’t expect that we will make gifts to Liverpool.

“He (Jude) has a contract. I’m a sales person regarding commercial business, but not regarding the player’s business. We are happy to have him on board a hundred percent and the longer Jude will play for us, the better it will be.”

Liverpool finally play the Klopp card

Throughout Liverpool’s interest in Bellingham, it has felt as though this could be a factor.

Klopp has never returned to Dortmund to make a signing while at Liverpool. With that goodwill in the bank, perhaps his old club could let him have a run at this one?

In the cut-throat world of top-level football, that might seem unlikely. Especially when the kind of money that Bellingham is being touted at is on offer.

But then again, Dortmund aren’t any old club. Rightly or wrongly, you get the impression that they’d be glad that if Bellingham is to go, it’d be to Liverpool and to Klopp.

Given the price that the 19-year-old is likely to cost, the Reds wouldn’t usually be in the running. Maybe internally they just have the feeling that Klopp’s history with the selling club can really influence this one.

Judging by Cramer’s words, that isn’t necessarily out of the question. Yes, there’ll be no gifts, that’s obvious. Bellingham is one of the most highly valued players currently playing the game.

But maybe Liverpool can still use their relationship with Dortmund to good effect, some way or another.
