AC Milan winger and reported Liverpool target Rafael Leao is set to hold contract talks with his current club after the World Cup.
That’s according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, writing on Twitter and in his ‘Daily Briefing’ Substack column.
During an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Portugal international spoke of his contract situation at Milan, with his deal currently set to run until the summer of 2024.
According to Calciomercato, Liverpool are one of several clubs who have been looking at the 23-year-old. Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain seemingly lead the race, but the Reds certainly remain in the mix.
Liverpool target Leao holding contract talks with Milan
As per reports, Leao has a £130m release clause in his contract at Milan. If he decides to extend with Paolo Maldini’s side, it is unclear how much he would cost.
In 20 games this season, the attacker has bagged seven goals and nine assists. This strong start follows on from last season, where he finished with 11 goals and ten assists in 34 Serie A matches.
When looking at the 23-year-old’s underlying stats, it is no wonder some of the biggest clubs from around Europe are looking to sign him.
Having ranked in the top six percent for dribbles and in the top nine percent for assists, Leao has earned statistical comparisons to Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Bayern Munich’s Sadio Mane.

Following the Senegal international’s departure, the Milan star seems to be the perfect long-term replacement to bring in on the wing.
However, that all depends on how his contract talks go, as he could became far too expensive for the Reds to consider.
