Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate is the first player to make 10+ tackles in a game at the 2022 World Cup.

That’s according to Squawka, after the 23-year-old dominated at the back for France, despite a 1-0 loss to Tunisia.

Prior to the match, FBRef had the United States’ Tyler Adams at the top-spot with nine tackles.

Just behind, Reds target Jude Bellingham came in second with seven, alongside Denmark’s Rasmus Nissen and Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi.

However, the Anfield favourite became the first player to make ten tackles or more during a single game out in Qatar.

The youngster finished the match on 11 tackles, as did Eduardo Camavinga, who tied the record shortly after.

As per SofaScore match ratings, Konate received the highest score of the entire fixture, finishing with an 8.0 rating.

Even more impressively, no centre-back has ever made more tackles in World Cup history.

Having made 11 tackles, Konate became the first player to reach this total since Gennaro Gattuso did with Italy in the 2006 World Cup Final.

Konate breaks World Cup record

Although the stats mean a lot, it is good to see the Liverpool defender getting the recognition he deserves.

As a surprise addition to France’s back-line, the 23-year-old has been absolutely incredible out in Qatar.

Having played the full 90 minutes against Australia, Konate came on as a substitute against Denmark – having illustrated his quality to start in their final group game against Tunisia.

Acquired from RB Leipzig last summer in a deal worth £36m, the Reds pulled off an amazing bit of business with his signing.

Still a youngster, Konate has the best centre-back partner in Virgil van Dijk to learn from.

Playing at Anfield in both the Premier League and Champions League, the Frenchman is one of the brightest prospects in European football.

Therefore, hopefully he remains on Merseyside for years to come, as he certainly has the potential to take the reins from his Dutch partner at the back.
