Former Anfield star Ryan Babel has said he would tell reported Liverpool target Cody Gakpo to join the club if Jurgen Klopp makes an approach for him.
Taking to his guest column with The Athletic, the 35-year-old claims he wants the PSV star to make the switch to Merseyside, amid external interest from Arsenal and Manchester United.
“You see him linked to clubs in England, such as Manchester United,” Babel said.
“Everyone has the right price so let’s see how he develops in the tournament.
“He has shown enough quality that he is ready for the next step, whether it’s in January or next summer.

“As a Liverpool fan, I would tell him to go to Liverpool if they make an approach!
“Arsenal would also be an incredible team for him, with the current manager and the project that they’re building.
“He has to follow his heart.”
According to Voetbal International journalist Marco Timmer, the Reds are ready to negotiate with PSV over a proposed move for the player, after the World Cup has concluded.
Babel urges Gakpo to join Liverpool
In 146 appearances for the Reds, Babel bagged 22 goals and 18 assists for the club. If Liverpool were to sign the 23-year-old, they would be hoping for a more clinical record on Merseyside, given Gakpo’s 55 goals and 50 assists in 159 matches for PSV.
Now one of the most in-demand players in European football, it is no surprise to see Klopp and co taking a keen interest in the winger.
As of recent seasons, the Anfield outfit are undergoing a rebuild of the squad. The likes of Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho and Ibrahima Konate have all been brought in as talent for the long-term future of the club.
Therefore, at just 23-years-old, Gakpo would be a brilliant addition to Klopp’s arsenal.

With his electric pace and lethal finishing in front of goal, the youngster has all the skills needed to adjust to the game in the Premier League.
Furthermore, at such a young age, the Netherlands international still has years left to improve. Consequently, his potential is truly exciting.
Hailed as a ‘special’ player by journalist Fabrizio Romano, this would sure to be an incredible signing for the Reds.
