Multiple reports in Portugal claim Liverpool are in the running for Enzo Fernández. The Argentine is lighting up the World Cup.

Several reports out of Portugal claim that Liverpool want Enzo Fernández and are in the mix to get him. The Argentinian midfielder isn’t expected to leave Benfica in January, however.

But Record, A Bola, and O Jogo all believe Liverpool are there in the running for next summer. A January transfer is on the cards if someone meets his release clause, but at £103m, that seems unlikely.

What is likely, though, is that several of the world’s top clubs will try to tempt Enzo away from Benfica. The 21-year-old is enjoying a great season in Portugal and grabbed a wonderful goal for Argentina at the World Cup this weekend.

There’s little doubt that Liverpool like what they see.

We would love to see Enzo at Anfield. He’s a fantastic talent – the kind of midfielder who can slot into any team. That’s a strength that Liverpool particularly love, with Jurgen Klopp preferring all-action options who can change to a different style of play mid-game.

Enzo can certainly do that. The 21-year-old can win the ball back consistently, he can threaten at the other end, and he boasts the energy to get about the pitch all game long.

It’s no surprise, then, that Joe Cole labelled him ‘perfect’ at the World Cup. That’s the feeling you get from Enzo. He’s already capable of delivering whatever you need at the highest level – and there’s still so much potential there.

We’ve said for a while that Jude Bellingham should be Liverpool’s no.1 midfield target but Enzo should be right behind him. He’d be a sensational signing next year and it seems the Reds see it that way, too.
