Brighton are in talks for David Datro Fofana, according to Fabrizio Romano. Liverpool supposedly like the striker.
This comes from Fabrizio Romano. He believes that Brighton are now in talks for David Datro Fofana and hope to complete a deal.
It won’t be easy, he says, as there’s plenty of competition for his signature.
“Brighton have opened talks with Molde to sign Ivorian talented striker David Datro Fofana,” he wrote on Twitter. “Negotiations are ongoing, deal not easy as many clubs are tracking him.
“Understand Molde want more than €10m to sell Fofana, who has 21 total goals this year – he’s 19.”
Brighton want Datro Fofana
Liverpool are supposedly one of the clubs tracking Fofana. Ivorian outlet Fratmat claimed as much earlier this month and it now seems very possible.
Fofana is having a wonderful year, as Romano says. Molde’s season runs along the calendar year, so the striker has 15 in 24 league games. This ‘season’ he’s picked up another two in the Europa Conference League, suggesting he can take his goals to European competition.
Of course, the big draw with Fofana is that he’s doing this at 19. We’ve said before that he could be a decent long-term alternative to Darwin Nunez up top, particularly if Roberto Firmino left Liverpool.

The fact that Brighton are in for him suggests he’s got the talent to do so, in fact. Their scouting with these young players is exceptional and their use of data analysis to find bargains takes them far. Moises Caicedo and Alexis McAllister have been brilliant signings in recent years and Fofana could be something similar.
Liverpool, then, are running out of time if they do want him. £8m is potentially a bargain if they want someone in that Divock Origi role once again. Of course, there are so many forwards at the club right now that it’s hard to see how he’d get games.
Perhaps this isn’t the Reds’ race to win, then. Fofana is certainly one to keep an eye on, though.
