PSV Eindhoven winger and reported Liverpool target Cody Gakpo is almost certain to leave the Eredivisie, according to TV presenter Hans Kraay.

Speaking on ESPN, the Dutchman claimed the 23-year-old is already effectively ‘gone’ from PSV, amid reported interest from Jurgen Klopp’s side and Manchester United.

“Gakpo is gone,” Kraay said.

“PSV are not going to keep him and cannot keep him anymore.

“At Liverpool, assistant Pepijn Lijnders is charmed by him, so he is chasing Jürgen Klopp.

“Yes, Gakpo is gone.”

According to Voetbal International journalist Marco Timmer, the Reds are one of a number of clubs waiting to negotiate for the Netherlands international.

Liverpool could sign Gakpo

Due to such incredible form this season, it was only a matter of time until the youngster was linked with some of the biggest clubs in European football.

In 14 Eredivisie games this term, the attacker has bagged nine goals and 12 assists. Possibly even more impressively, he has also amassed three goals and two assists in five Europa League fixtures.

Compared with other wingers across the continent over the past year, Gakpo has ranked in the top one percent for non-penalty goals scored and for assists made.

Having been the only player to match the numbers of Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, the 23-year-old has been a revelation this year.

Even at the World Cup, the Dutchman has netted in each of his two opening group games – ensuring victory over Senegal and a draw against Ecuador.

Hailed by football analyst Statman Dave as ‘incredible’, it is no surprise to see the Reds joining the race to land Gakpo’s signature.

With the level of competition expected, this will be a tough deal to get over the line. However, with his exit almost certainty, Liverpool will sure need to make a move for the attacker in January.
