Reported Liverpool transfer target Adrien Rabiot has admitted that he could soon be looking for a new club.

The French midfielder excelled in the World Cup on Tuesday evening, but his future is still up in the air. And now, speaking to La Repubblica via journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Rabiot says he doesn’t know what lies ahead for him.

“I don’t know my future, I don’t know if I’m going to stay at Juve,” said the 27-year-old. “It’s not time to discuss about it. For sure, the latest performances help me go elsewhere or talk about a new deal with Juventus.”

That last point could be crucial for Rabiot. He scored and assisted for France as they beat Australia 4-1. A couple more displays like that and potential suitors, like Liverpool, may be on high alert.

Links to Rabiot inevitably lead to rolled eyes from Liverpool fans. That’s fair enough, really. The Juve midfielder is a notoriously high maintenance individual.

On top of that, he has regularly flattered to deceive at both PSG and at Juventus. Nevertheless, the Reds are said to be pushing to sign him once again.

Rabiot obviously has plenty of quality. To get into this France squad in the first place is no mean feat and to star for them shows that he’s certainly got a bit of something.

As Liverpool hunt for the right ingredients to add to their midfield, maybe they could do with someone of the Les Bleus star’s ilk.

Graceful on the ball, relatively dynamic and capable of scoring goals, he’s got some attractive attributes.

His contract situation – expiring in the summer – also means that Liverpool could get him on the cheap.

Unfortunately, this might prove to be a crucial factor in who the Reds go for over the next few months, particularly in January. With Champions League qualification in the balance, Liverpool perhaps can’t afford to bet the bank.

While they’re putting significant funds aside for Jude Bellingham too, one or two quality budget options might be the order of the day. Rabiot’s salary demands may ultimately mean he doesn’t fall into that category. But let’s see what happens.
