BBC pundit Ashley Williams has insisted Darwin Nunez has been a great signing for Liverpool.
Speaking during coverage of Uruguay’s World Cup fixture against South Korea, the former Swansea City defender lauded the 23-year-old’s rise to prominence since arriving at Anfield this summer.
“Really good signing,” he said.
“I think at the start of the season people were questioning him a little.
“But now you’re starting to see him, he’s settled in, powerful, his confidence is very high, he can shoot on right and left, runs in behind.
“I think he’s got a little bit of work to do but starting next to Suarez should do him the world of good.”
Williams full of praise for Nunez
For someone who has supposedly struggled to settle in since arriving on Merseyside, Nunez has managed to bag nine goals in his first 18 games.
In the Reds’ last three Champions League outings, the Uruguayan has emphatically scored in each fixture.
Not only has he been prolific in front of goal, but also playing off the wing, he causes havoc for the opposition’s defence.
His bursting pace and incredible strength makes him extremely difficult to mark in and around the box, opening up space for other attackers to exploit.
Starting up top for the Uruguay national team alongside Suarez, the youngster has a brilliant mentor to learn from out in Qatar.
Against South Korea, Nunez remained on the pitch for the entirety of the 90, whereas the former Barcelona star was substituted for Edinson Cavani.
With another vastly experienced strike partner to shadow, the Liverpool attacker should use this period to learn from the best – before he comes back firing at Anfield next month.
It would certainly do his confidence a world of good if he excels at his first World Cup.
